Cheap Vacations for the Family

Many parents dread summer because they'll have their hands full with restless kids. It's also because these kids will sooner or later be clamoring for a vacation to get rid of boredom. Are there any cheap vacations for the family at all?

Perhaps the best suggestions for cheap vacations are camping trips. They can be very near or quite far from your place, and many campsites have already been well-developed that you won't be that distant from civilization.

Plan cheap vacations at campgrounds found in national parks, state parks, state or national forests. Ask your neighbors if they have already planned cheap vacations involving camping in the past, and gather some site suggestions. Never take your family to uncharted grounds.

Cheap vacations should cost no more than $25 a night in parks, and if you could borrow camping gear from friends and other relatives, then do so. If you don't go on cheap vacations that often, it's not practical to purchase tents, cooking utensils, coolers, and portable chairs and tables just for this year's adventure.

There should also be campsites offering some equipment for rent. Usually, frequented parks already have charcoal grills, fire pits, and picnic tables for guests. Even when you're on the lookout for cheap vacations, you'll still find places where there are decent enclosed showers and bathrooms and areas to do your dishes.

There will be no dearth of activities if you know which cheap vacations to look for. Some places offer leisure activities such as boating and fishing. Find a place where it's safe to swim, as kids can feel very uneasy when the weather gets hot and humid.

When you're on cheap vacations, always bring stuff for the kids to keep busy with. Bring their favorite game or toy, a frisbee, maybe even their bikes. Ask them to refrain from bringing their PSPs and GameBoy units so they can appreciate the outdoors.

Another good suggestion for cheap vacations is going on an RV trip. Don't be put off by Robin Williams' movie "RV," though. An RV trip can be quite pleasurable and comfortable for everyone. You might be spending a lot on gasoline, let's say $100 a day, but think of the money you'll save by not eating out all the time.

You can cook your meals in an RV just as you would at home. They are equipped with a range, a microwave oven, a ref, and most everything you need in preparing a decent meal for your family. RVs can be rented by those looking for cheap vacations via road trips. There are hundreds of RV rental companies offering the latest RV models with all the necessary amenities.

Cheap vacations are a must for big families and those who know how to have fun even without posh trappings. Not all cheap vacations are enjoyed by everyone, though.

Kids, especially, dream of sleeping in luxurious hotel beds and traveling first class on planes. But if you can explain to them that the money saved will eventually trickle down to them in terms of their pocket money or cash for souvenirs to bring home, they just might be willing to give it a go.
